HALTON MARINE SPECIAL PROJECTS: TRAINS
Halton Marine supplies a part of ventilation system for 20 double-decked sleeping cars that will operate in long-distance traffic in Finland.
Halton Marine has always based its operation on flexibility and customer-orientation. The main focus has remained the same throughout the years: manufacturing high-quality ventilation systems for demanding conditions. “We have been strongly developing our solutions specifically for Marine and Oil & Gas markets as well as for Naval applications. However, every now and then we meet an interesting project that does not completely fall into our main focus area as companies are looking for a manufacturer with a special know-how and willingness to meet the needs of special project”, says Salla Ahlberg, Marketing Manager of Halton Marine. A good example of this is our “train project”.
The train project started already some years ago when a Finnish sleeping car manufacturer Transtech Oy and HVAC system supplier Lumikko Oy were looking for a manufacturer who could create a suitable solution for sleeping cabins. As a result of a co-operation the companies developed a HVAC system that includes a compact VAV unit with a reheater, a wall-heating element, supply and exhaust grilles and a room thermostat in each cabin. The room thermostat measures the comfort in the cabin and adjusts the temperature according to passenger demand. This is done individually for each cabin in order to maintain the individual level of comfort. The VAV unit is specifically designed for the sleeping cars. The compact size, light weight and a special form make it ideal for a limited amount of space.
The VAV units are connected to the HVAC system control unit that gathers the information on ventilation system and indicates of possible malfunction situations. The HVAC controller also enables the operator to cut the ventilation on stand-by mode when the sleeping car is not in operation or is being serviced.
Halton Marine has already delivered its products for the same project few years ago. Currently delivered products are for the new sleeping cars which are expected to be in operation in the end of year 2010 and 2011.
